Starting Your Permanent Jewellery Journey? Here Are Some Tips!

If you're just beginning with permanent jewellery, Here are some starter tips

Invest in a Quality Welder
We highly recommend Sunstone Welders – they’re reliable, precise, and widely trusted in the industry.

Choose Quality Chains

Avoid plated chains – they tarnish quickly and don’t offer the longevity your clients expect.

Start with chains no smaller than 1.5mm until you’ve gained more practice with delicate styles.

Steer clear of thin or overly dainty linked chains when starting out.

Use the Right Jump Rings
Begin with 22ga or 24ga jump rings – they’re easier to handle for beginners and great for practice.

Keep Your Chain Selection Simple

Start with just 2 to 3 chain styles in Gold Filled and Sterling Silver.

Purchase in bulk to grow your confidence and ensure consistency in your offerings.

Add Charms Thoughtfully
We recommend carrying CZ Linking charms in clear – they’re classic, popular, and easy to work with.

Always Check Your Welds
Use a magnifying lens or microscope to closely inspect your welds. Clean, secure welds ensure both safety and quality – never skip this step!

Do a Pull Test
After welding, always perform a pull test about 2cm from the jump ring. Hold both sides of the chain and give it a firm pull and gentle wiggle.
This checks the strength and confirms the bracelet is secure.

Tip: One common beginner mistake is accidentally nicking the link next the jump ring during the final trim – this can cause the bracelet to break within hours. The pull test gives you peace of mind that the chain is properly secured.
